Dutch champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates and runner up Curaçao Neptunus will head to Ostrava in the Czech Republic to participate in the European Champions Cup.
Yesterday, the CEB, the European Baseball Confederation, appointed the organization of the tournament to Arrows Ostrava, the current Czech champion. For the first time in history a club from the Czech Republic gets the honor to organize this prestigious event.
In the past season, Arrows Ostrava clinched its second consecutive Czech Extra League championship after decades of domination by Draci Brno. Arrows Ostrava swept Eagles Praha (Prague) 6-3; 10-1; 5-2.
The two Dutch representatives will be reigning champion L&D Amsterdam Pirates and runner up Curaçao Netpunus.
L&D Amsterdam Pirates came back from a beaten position after trailing 3-0 in the Holland Series. The club won the next three games and eventually beat Neptunus in Rotterdam 6-0 to end Neptunus’ dominance. Jhan Rifaela made a spot start and guided the club to its fith Dutch title.
Neptunus clinched a spot for the ECC by finishing on top of the standings of the regular season.
Next to Arrows Ostrava, L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus the following clubs will participate:
German champion Heidenheim Heideköpfe, Bonn Capitals, multiple French champion Rouen Huskies, Italian champion Fortitudo Bologna and Nettuno Baseball City.
The European Champions Cup will be played in the first week of June 2020.
