As Fortitudo Bologna acquired Cuban born but now France citizen Andy Paz, they had to make room on the roster. Victim of this move was Dutchie Jarreau Martina. The Italian champion released the backup catcher.
Paz, born in Havana in 1993, moved to France and became a French citizen in 2007. He played seven seasons in the Minor Leagues (2011-2017) in the ranks of the Oakland Athletics. In 2018-2019 played with the independent Gary Southshore Railcats and the West Sussex Minors, improving his batting average and slugging percentage .271 / OBP .310 / SLG. 388, collecting 81 hits of which 20 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 home runs in 79 games. Paz has also experience in the Nicaraguan winter league, with Tigres del Chinandega where he was teammates with Osman Marval with whom he will platoon behind home plate in Bologna as well.
Jarreau Martina was released to make room for Paz. Martina played in eight games of which four were starts. In seventeen at-bats, he batted a solid .412 (seven singles and one double) by far the best average of the team. His run production stayed a bit behind as he drove in just one run. His slugging percentage also belonged to the best as it was ranked fourth.
Jarreau will join his last year’s team Oosterhout Twins.
