Draci Brno signs Peter Moylan

Draci Brno has made a surprising move by signing a twelve year MLB veteran. The 40-year old Peter Moylan will wear the colors of the Dragons for one season.

One may wonder why an ex MLB player is opting for the Czech Republic instead of Italy where still quite some money can be earned by players from outside the European Union. Well, Moylan moved to Brno because of a friend who is linked to the club.

Moylan represented the Braves, the Royals and the Dodgers during his twelve-year career. He broke into professional baseball in 1996 with the Minnesota Twins but after two years in the Gulf Coast League, he was released. He returned home to Australia but still got an invitation for team Australia to participate in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. With that tournament, he left a lasting impression that resulted in a contract with the Atlanta Braves.  After having split the first two seasons between the Bigs and AAA, he spent several years at the highest level before spending most of the 2012 season in the minors. Eventually, he spent the next five years partially at AAA and in the Major Leagues. It won’t come as a surprise that Moylan also played in the ABL. In 2015 and 2016 he played for the Melbourne Aces.

It was fellow Aussie John Hussey, who is the club’s pitching coach and who is responsible for the acquisition of players, who convinced Moylan to join Draci.

Since being promoted to the Czech Extra League in 1993, Draci Brno has been very dominant as it won the Czech championship 21 times (1995-2010; 2012-2014; 2016 and 2017).
