Rouen Huskies 3 – 8 Curaçao Neptunus
For seven innings, the Rouen Huskies could keep pace with Curaçao Neptunus rather well, but eventually, in the eighth, the current Dutch champion scored four runs that led to a score that perhaps didn’t really show the real balance of power. On the other hand, only three of the runs that Neptunus scored were earned and the team collected thirteen hits, compared to Rouen only four.
Even though Neptunus loaded the bases in the first, the club managed to score only once. An inning and a half later, Rouen would tie the game on a bases-loaded walk.
Thanks to a double by Dwayne Kemp, singles by Gianison Boekhoudt and Dudley Leonora, and a sac fly by Quentin de Cuba, Neptunus managed to score twice. In the sixth inning, Rouen tied the game when the team loaded the bases and Hugo Blondel singled home their second run and Louis Brainville hit a sac fly to tie the game.
In the seventh, Neptunus regained the lead as Dudley Leonora scored on Benjamin Dille’s force out at second.
In the aforementioned eighth inning Neptunus stepped on it once more and put the final score on the board: 3-8.
Aaron de Groot earned the win for Neptunus as he went 5.1 strong innings in which he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks. De Groot fanned ten batters. Yoann Vaugelade took the loss after 8 innings in which he allowed eight runs (three earned) on thirteen hits and four walks as he struck out eight.
Gianison Boekhoudt was the best hitter for Curaçao Neptunus as he went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Boekhoudt also recorded the final two outs as he took the mound in relief.
Thanks to this win, Neptunus remains one of two unbeaten teams.
