Dutch hoofdklasse 2019: Round 9, day 3
Because of the games of L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Curaçao Neptunus moved to Saturday, only two games were scheduled today: DSS @ Silicon Storks and Quick Amersfoort @ Meerlease Pioniers.
DSS 2 – 3 Silicon Storks
A hard fought, walk-off win in a close game for Silicon Storks. After DSS took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, it took the team from The Hague until the fifth inning to tie the game.
A leadoff double by Jurriaan Dijk, a single by Milo Botman and a sac fly by Giovanny Perez, led to the game-tying run. Two innings later, Storks would take the lead when Jurriaan Dijk scored from second base on a single to left center field by Giovanny Perez. But in the top of the ninth, the game would be tied once more when Darryl Silberie scored from third base on a single hit by Mitchel Dautzenberg.
But a double by Nick Winkel drove in Jurriaan Dijk for the walk-off win.
Even though Kevin Nieveld gave up a run on two hits in 1.1 innings, he earned the win. Lars Werkman pitched one inning and took the loss.
Pinch hitter Nick Winkel was the best hitter for Silicon Storks, average wise. He went 1 for 1 with a double and the game-winning RBI.
Quick Amersfoort 14 – 8 Meerlease Pioniers
A wild game in Hoofddorp. Until the seventh inning, both teams were each other’s equals but from that inning, Quick Amersfoort stepped on it and walked away. In the third inning, Quick Amersfoort opened the score as it plated four runs. In the bottom of that same inning, Meerlease Pioniers also scored four times. As both teams scored once in the fourth and twice in the next two innings, the game remained tied at the start of the seventh frame. Quick took the lead when Remian Denis scored from second base on a wild pitch. With the bases loaded, Pioniers kept Quick from scoring as Rowan van Hoek was tagged out at home plate on a 3-2 play. Bryan Engelhardt followed with a bases-clearing double to left center field, to give Quick an 11-7 lead. A two-run eight and a one-run ninth for Quick and a one-run eighth for Pioniers led to a 14-8 final score.
Pastor Edgar Martinez pitched three innings in relief for the win. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk and struck out two. Nathan Diaby took the loss as he allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in 0.1 inning.
Bryan Engelhardt was the best hitter for Quick Amersfoort as he went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run with six RBI and two runs scored.
