On July 20, 2019, it will be fifty years ago that the Apollo 11 landed on the moon. This historic event will be commemorated by the Richmond Flying Squirrels with a special space suit themed jersey.
The special space suit jerseys are inspired by the suits that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin wore on their moon landing.
“Plans for the 2019 season are almost complete,” said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “This is another example of how we love to work with other companies to promote and work together on timely, historical subjects such as this.”
As part of the festivities, the first 1,000 fans of 15 years and older will be handed a special astronaut-themed bobblehead, which will be announced at a later date, and a post-game firework show.
To commemorate the release of Universal Pictures “First Man,” which tells the story of Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission, the Flying Squirrels have teamed up with CinéBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park to offer a limited-availability ticket package (available here). The first 50 fans to purchase the package will receive eight Field Level tickets to Lunar Landing Night or other games of their choice**, a guaranteed astronaut-themed bobblehead and a pair of movie passes to CinéBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park all for just $90.
The Flying Squirrels space suit jerseys will be up for auction during the game on July 20. The money that will be raised with this auction will benefit math and science education programs in Richmond-area schools.
This promotion will be one of a busy 2019 season in which the Flying Squirrels will host the Eastern League All-Star Game as well.
