Tom de Blok earns first Midwest League win
Tonight in the matchup between the South Bend Cubs vs the West Michigan WhiteCaps, Tom de Blok earned his first win in the Midwest League. De Blok pitched six shutout innings.
In the six shutout innings, Tom limited his opponent to three hits and gave up three walks.
The first hit was given up in the first inning when Christian Donahue doubled to right field. The next batter was given a free pass but once more the proverb “A double play is a pitcher’s best friend” proved to be true as Jimmy Herron III hit into an inning-ending double play.
De Blok cruised through the second and the third inning as he retired the side but in the fourth frame, he gave up another single and another walk. But still, he managed to get out of the inning without any damage.
The final single Tom gave up was hit in the fifth inning and the final walk he allowed was given up in the sixth. But in both cases, Tom never got into trouble.
Tom did not get massive run support but the three runs the WhiteCaps scored were enough to clinch the victory. Two of the three runs the WhiteCaps scored were plated in the fifth inning when Luke Sherley drove in Zach Davis and Jordan Pearce with a single.
A fly ball to left field by Luke Sherley (once again) drove in the third run for West Michigan in the seventh inning. By then Tom de Blok was pulled already.
In total, Tom has a 3-2 record this season. Two wins were clinched in the Florida State League (A-Advanced) as the two losses he suffered were both in the Midwest League.
