Dutch hoofdklasse 2018: Round 11, day 1

On day one of the eleventh round of this hoofdklasse season, DSS hosted HCAW and Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort hosted Meerlease Pioniers. The game between De Glaskoning Twins and Curaçao Neptunus was canceled due to superfluous rain. Even though the game between L&D Amsterdam Pirates and Silicon Storks started, it was first suspended due to rain and eventually canceled due to thunderstorms. By the time, Pirates was leading 7-0.
HCAW 6 – 6 DSS
After DSS opened the score in the second inning, it had a huge opportunity to break it
wide open in the fourth inning as it loaded the bases but with two outs the team failed to push through as it left three runners on base without scoring. And that was the point when HCAW turned the tables. In the fifth inning HCAW scored five times on three hits and three errors. One inning later, DSS threatened once more as Chris Pfau allowed them to score once and load the bases with no outs before he was replaced by Ian Delemarre. Delemarre gave up a bases-loaded walk and a single on which DSS scored two more runs to get within a run from HCAW. But HCAW countered once more in the sixth inning. When Delano Selassa hit into what should have been a force out at second base but ended up in an error, Julian Goins scored the sixth run for the team from Bussum. But like the previous inning, DSS scored once and loaded the bases again in the sixth inning. But unlike the previous inning, DSS failed to take advantage of the bases loaded situation. But eventually DSS managed to tie the game in the seventh as Tino van Erk drove in
Tommy van de Sande with a single through the left side. But since no new inning may be started after 22.30 (10.30 PM) due to the curfew rule, the game was called at a 6-6 tie.
Best hitter for HCAW was Jeandro Tromp who went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Omar Williams was the best hitter for DSS as he went 4 for 4 with two RBI.
Meerlease Pioniers 5 – 4 Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort
Amersfoort was the only place where a ball game was affected by bad weather tonight.
With a new main sponsor, Hoofddorp Pioniers operated under the name Meerlease Pioniers in Amersfoort. A double by Tijmen Takke, followed by a fielding error and a single by Rachid Engelhardt gave Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort an early lead in the second inning. But a sac fly by Mark Smit in the fourth tied the game at one as one inning later, Pioniers’ offense took off as the team scored thrice thanks to three singles, two doubles, a balk and a wild pitch.
Bryan Engelhardt cut Pioniers’ lead in half as he scored on a groundout in the sixth ininng. One inning later, Quick managed to inch within a run from Pioniers but the team from Hoofddorp managed to score an insurance run in the ninth, that would bail them out. With the bases loaded, Max Draijer managed to draw a walk to give Pioniers a 5-3 lead. Quick then rallied for one more run but their rally fell short so they lost 5-4.
