TinCaps extend PDC and have special promotion
The Fort Wayne TinCaps and the San Diego Padres have extended their Player Development Contract with two years. The new extension will stretch the affiliation between the two ball clubs to twenty-two years.
The affiliation with the Padres dates back to 1999 when the team sported the Fort Wayne Wizards moniker. The history of the franchise dates back to 1947 when it entered the Midwest League as the Mattoon Indians (Cleveland Indians). In 1958, the franchise switched affiliations and became a Cardinals farm team as it moved to Keokuk and adopted the moniker of the parent club. That cooperation lasted until 1963 when the Minnesota Twins took over. In that year the club moved again, this time to Kenosha where it also was named after the parent club. Eventually, in 1993 the club moved to Fort Wayne and adopted the name Wizards. But the club remained loyal to the Twins, who would leave them after the 1998 season. That is where the Padres jumped in.
As usual, both clubs extended pleasantries when they announced the news of the PDC extension. “The Padres are building a World Series contender, and we’re energized to be part of it,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “Beyond that, we’re deeply appreciative of what the Padres do to help us make a positive impact in our community, and the stability of our relationship with the Padres is something we don’t take for granted.”
The Padres farm system is currently ranked the no. one farm system in baseball. Seven of its players are among the top 80 prospects.
Padres Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller stated: “We are extremely proud to continue our partnership with Fort Wayne. Our baseball operations group is tremendously appreciative of the steadfast leadership and professionalism of Jason Freier, Mike Nutter, and the entire organization. Fort Wayne provides best-in-class facilities at Parkview Field and a fan base that has embraced our young core. Strong partners like the TinCaps and the city of Fort Wayne help our players grow and thrive as we continue to build a championship-caliber organization.”
Despite the Padres still have some catching up to do as the Minnesota Twins affiliation with the franchise lasted more than thirty years, the cooperation between the TinCaps and the Padres is the longest lasting affiliation in the Padres’ history.
Tonight the TinCaps will have a superhero theme night. For the occasion, the team will wear special Tincredibles jerseys with a nod to the Pixar movie the Incredibles. The jerseys will look very similar to the superhero suits the Parr family, aka the Incredibles is wearing.
