Recently you could read here about a possible move of the Batavia Muckdogs (A Short Season, New York-Penn League) to Waldorf in Maryland, where the team would play in the stadium of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
The team would be the first one owned by an Afro-American since the Savannah Cardinals. The owner group had signed a deal but it fell through when the Nationals made clear that they would opt to have an affiliation with the team. Since Waldorf MD is close to Baltimore, the Orioles objected to the sale as the club’s front office had many doubts because of its territorial rights in that area . But not only the Orioles refused to give permission, so did the Eastern League and the Carolina League, which are operated in the same area.
The MuckDogs have been operated by the AAA Rochester Red Wings of the International League in exchange for a part of the ownership starting with five percent in 2007 and adding five percent for every year that they run the team up to fifty percent. Through the years the MuckDogs have been losing money around $100,000 annually.
With the sale falling through, the MuckDogs remain on the market with an asking price of $6,000,000.
