Reds promote Hendrik Clementina

Hendrik Clementina has been promoted to A Full Season Dayton Dragons by the Cincinnati Reds. Last season he played at A Short Season with the Billings Mustangs. The 20-year old catcher will play his fifth season in 2018.

Curaçao native Clementina made his first steps with the Dodgers in the Dominican Summer League. After two years in the Arizona League, he was promoted to the Ogden Raptors (A Short Season Pioneer League). At the end of July, Clementina was traded to the Reds together with Scott Van Slyke.

Strange enough, Hendrik put up better numbers before the trade. With the Raptors, he batted .370 in 24 games. But after the trade, his average dropped to .240 with the Mustangs. Combined he had a BA of .303.

Behind the plate, he had a much better fielding percentage with the Raptors (.996). With the Mustangs it dropped to .988. In absolute numbers: he made one error with Ogden and two with Billings.

Also the number of runners caught stealing was better with the Raptors. With Ogden, he threw out 30% of the potential base stealers, while he only threw out 22% with Billings.
Perhaps the change of environment influenced his performance.

  1. Nice promotion in a farm system that is ranked in the top 10. His numbers are still good, so let us just hope he gets back to the numbers he had with the Dodger team.
