Summing up the Dutchies per MLB organization: St. Louis Cardinals

In today’s edition of “Summing up the Dutchies per MLB organization” I will turn to:

Darren Seferina (photo: milb.com)

Number of Dutchies: 1

Darren Seferina:
Darren Seferina is the sole Dutchie in the organization of the Cardinals. The 21-year old shortstop from Curacao signed a deal with the Cards in 2014 after he was drafted as 165th player. Apparently the Cardinals liked what they saw as they sent Darren to the State College Spikes of the New York – Penn League (Short Season A) instead of sending him to the Dominican Summer League or the Gulf Coast League. With the Spikes he batted a very decent .294 after spending most of the 51 games that he played above .300.
This season Darren is playing for the Peoria Chiefs. In 95 games he is hitting a very decent .291 so far with 22 doubles, 12 triples and 4 homeruns.
Even the Midwest League thinks that he is the real deal as they honored him with the Post-Season All Star title. He had a similar honor in the New York – Penn League last season.

Darren’s tools are intriguing. He is a speedy guy (22 stolen bases so far this year), he has a powerful arm but at bat he will never be a power threat. He can be a threat on the bases if he can learn to be more patient at the bases. In 91 games he posted a .978 fielding percentage. Darren may the Cards’ future second baseman if he keeps developing like he is doing now.
