Naming baseball teams after food for one day is becoming a trend. Of course, the first team that was named after food are the Montgomery Biscuits. But since the Fresno Grizzlies adopted their Fresno Tacos moniker, more and more teams are adopting a food moniker for one day.
The next team who is adopting a food moniker is the Albuquerque Isotopes. The AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies in the Pacific Coast League will call itself the Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburgers on June 16 as part of a promotion.
The stadium of the Isotopes will be adorned with Green Chile Cheeseburgers that night as part of the promotion.
The Green Chile Cheeseburgers will face the Fresno Grizzlies on that day, who will wear their Tacos uniform for the occasion.
According to Isotopes GM John Traub, the Isotopes wanted to embark on a journey that would be all about what New Mexico is all about. “This is something our fans can really sink their teeth into. After all, we are what we eat.”
Special Green Chile Cheeseburgers merchandise is now on sale at the Isotopes Park Pro Shop. Fans can purchase replica jerseys, on-field hats, t-shirts and much more.
An interactive website, www.BringingTheHeatABQ.com will launch within the next few days and feature unique social media polls relating to all things Green Chile Cheeseburgers. The website will also feature links to the Isotopes shop to purchase team merchandise and much more.
