Wednesday, El Paso Diablos day

The El Paso Chihuahuas, AAA Pacific Coast League affiliate of the San Diego Padres will have a special themed Wednesday during the 2017 season. The team will look back to the past of El Paso baseball and wear jerseys in accordance with the themed night.

The Chihuahuas will wear complete El Paso Diablos uniforms, referring to the 1980s El Paso affiliated minor league team.
Even though the font of the letters is typical 1970s, the Diablos wore this uniform during the eighties.

In those days, the Diablos were an AA team playing in the Texas League.

“We are extremely proud and excited to bring this iconic name and look back under the control of Minor League Baseball and more importantly, El Paso, its true home,” said Chihuahuas vice president and general manager Brad Taylor.

There will be only one Wednesday on which the Diablos uniforms will not be worn. On June 14, the team will wear camo jerseys to commemorate the 242nd anniversary of the US Army.

Even though professional baseball in El Pase dates back to 1897, the El Paso Diablos date back to 1961 with two years without pro ball (1971 and 1973). El Paso Diablos Days logo

After the 2004 season, the Diablos were sold to the St. Louis Cardinals, who moved the team to Springfield for the 2005 season, where the team adopted the name of the parent club. But it wasn’t the end of professional baseball in El Paso as the independent Central Baseball League landed in El Paso with a team named…. the Diablos. Eventually, the Diablos end came in 2013. It was announced that the Pacific Coast League would move to El Paso with the Chihuahuas, so there was no room for the independent club anymore.

On top of wearing Diablos uniforms, the Chihuahuas will bring back some of the sights and sounds of the Dudley Dome like the stadium of the Diablos was jokingly named. Fans are encouraged to bring their handkerchiefs to wave “Bye Bye Baby” as the visiting pitcher gets taken out of the game, get their voices ready to shout “We Want A HIT!” and more. A complete new videoboard look with Diablos themes will complete the transformation of Diablos Days.
