Dutchies in MLB Spring Training

The spring training exhibition games are well underway. How do the players from Aruba, Curacao and the Netherlands perform? Here is an overview of yesterday’s games.

Due to the absence of MLB players from Curacao and Aruba because of their participation in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, another short episode.

For the change, Spencer Kieboom participated as a starter for the Washington Nationals yesterday. Not behind the dish though. The Nats’ manager decided to use him as a designated hitter. Spencer started well as he singled to right field on a sharp line drive in his first at bat (in the second inning). He would score on a single to center field, hit by Michael Taylor.
One inning later, Spencer also drove in a run. With Matt Skole on third, Spencer hit a sac fly to to center field.
Unfortunately, Spencer was called out on strikes in the fifth inning but nevertheless, it was quite a fruitful game for him. His contributions helped the Nationals to clinch a 9-1 over the Detroit Tigers. With the single out of two at bats, Spencer raised his batting average to .333.

It looks like the Atlanta Braves are liking Ray-Patrick Didder. The young outfielder from Aruba was sent out of the dugout for the third time this spring training. In the top of the eighth inning, Ray-Patrick entered the game as an offensive substitution. Unfortunately, he did not manage to get a hit, so his average is still stuck at 0.00. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he played left field, but no ball was hit into his direction.

In the clash between two rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, Kenley Jansen still did not pitch, so he is still one of two Dutchies that has to make an appearance. The other one of course is Ozhaino Albies.
