“New” Dutchies in the Minors

This blog post is about players from Curacao that have made  steps at Advanced Rookie League or higher. I lost track of some of them, so it is time to place them in the limelight.

After a long period on the inactive list, John Polonius is finally playing again. After a rehab stint with the AZL Giants he was appointed to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA, Eastern League). But even though he hit .333 with the team (2 for 6) in just three games, the Giants assigned him to the Augusta GreenJackets (A Full Season, South Atlantic League).
With the GreenJackets, he is not hitting as good as he did with Richmond. In nineteen games (sixty-five at bats) he collected eleven hits (.169) with four RBI.
His defense is decent. He split time between third base and shortstop. At position six, he committed four errors (fielding % .922) but at third base he still has a perfect score.

Kevin Josephina is working his way through the Braves’ minor league system in a quick fashion. In June he was promoted from the GCL Braves to the Danville Braves (Advanced Rookie, Appalachian League). In thirteen games he hit .300 with three doubles and a homerun. He played the majority of the games at second base. At this position he had a perfect fielding percentage. But in the three games at shortstop, he committed three errors, hitting his fielding percentage hard (.833). Nevertheless the Braves decided to promote him to Rome (A Full Season, South Atlantic League). He isn’t hitting as good as with Danville, but still he hits a respectable .263. In Rome they are trying him at several positions. In two games at third base he committed two errors (.600 fielding percentage). In ten games at second base he did not commit an error and at short he committed four errors in nine games (.911).

After the Baltimore Orioles signed Kirvin Moesquit in July 2015, he spent time at the Gulf Coast League before the O’s sent him to their A Short Season team, the Aberdeen IronBirds near the end of the season. At the start of the 2016 seasn, Kirvin was at GCL level again but on August 6 he was promoted to the IronBirds again.
So far, in thirty-nine games he is struggling at the plate a bit. With a BA of .242, there is room for improvement.
His defense is a bit shaky as he committed eight errors in thirty-two games at third base. At second base (six games) he committed only one error.
