After posts about my favorite MLB caps, MiLB caps and MLB jersey, it is time to post my ten favorite Minor League jerseys (past and present).
10. Spokane Indians alternate jersey
The Spokane Indians are the A Short Season affiliation of the Texas Rangers. The club honors the local Salish tribe with a jersey that says Spokane in the language of the tribe of Native Americans. On the left sleeve there is a patch that says Spokane Indians in the language of the tribe. This jersey is unique in every possible way.
9. Albuquerque Isotopes home jersey
The AAA Albuquerque Isotopes got their name thanks to an episode of the Simpsons in which
Homer Simpson’s favorite team, the Springfield Isotopes moved to Albuquerque. After the Albuquerque Dukes moved to Portland and became another version of the Portland Beavers, their place was taken by the Isotopes in 2003. The script on the jersey is very playful and hasn’t changed since the inaugural season.
8. Columbia Fire Flies
The new A Full Season affiliate of the New York Mets will take the field this year. They moved from Savannah where they were named the SandGnats. The Fire Flies presented their jerseys last week and I think their home jersey is something special.
Especially the script with the curved lines, that make it look like that fire flies are encircling the team moniker are very nice. Unfortunately I don’t have anything else than this drawing right now, since the jerseys are not up for sale yet.
7. Fort Wayne TinCaps home jersey
The TinCaps are the A Full Season affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They play in the
Midwest League. This jersey also carries the kind of green that I like. But also the “iron” script is rather unique. The name TinCaps refers to the pan that Johnny Appleseed wore on his head.
6. Daytona Tortugas alternate jersey
The Daytona Tortugas are the A Advanced franchise of the Cincinnati Reds. After the Chicago Cubs left Daytona for Myrtle Beach, the void was filled by the Reds who renamed the Florida State League franchise Tortugas.
I like this jersey because of the kind of green and the nice logo on the sleeve.
5. Boise Hawks home jersey
The Boise Hawks changed their uniforms in 2013. The result was a home jersey with a playful orange/red and green script and a green left sleeve. The green sleeve also has a claw scratch mark on it. Why do I like this jersey? It is different. You don’t see too many jerseys with only one sleeve in a different colour than the rest of the shirt.
4. Myrtle Beach Pelican home jersey
I am a sucker for sleeveless jerseys, so it won’t come as a surprise that this one of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans is in my top… I like the yellow/baby blue script. I also like the combination of the white vest and the baby blue shirt underneath it.
3. Corpus Christi Hooks home jersey
The Corpus Christi Hooks are the AA affiliate of the Houston Astros. The word hook refers to the fishing industry of Corpus Christi, but of course it is also baseball related as it is slang for curve ball.
Another sleeveless jersey that comes with a t-shirt of a shade of blue between navy and royal. The word hooks is written in baby blue with a navy outlining.
2. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (old) home jersey
Before the Dodgers became the parent club of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the club
adapted their home jerseys to the parent club, the club had a fantastic sleeveless home jersey. The playful script in black, blue and gold showed the word Quakes with a crack running through it.
Underneath the vest, the club wore black t-shirts.
The Quakes are the A Advanced affiliation of the Dodgers. In the time they wore this jersey, they were the farm team of the Angels.
1. Montgomery Biscuits (old) home jersey
The Montgomery Biscuits started to play in the capital of Alabama in 2004. The club was also called the butter and blue. The old home jersey was also a sleeveless one with a navy t-shirt underneath. The script was navy/yellow and there was a navy yellow piping running around the neck down to the bottom of the jersey.
With this jersey, the Biscuits won their first and second Southern League championship in 2006 and 2007.
