Spinners remain Red Sox affiliate through 2018 season.
The Boston Red Sox and the Lowell Spinners have extended their PDC (Player Development Contract) through the 2018 season.
According to president Tim Bawmann, this extension is a testament to the solid partnership that the Spinners had with the Red Sox.
The name Spinners refers to the textile industrie that once was located in Lowell. The team from the New York – Penn League became partner of the Red Sox twenty years ago. Currently all minor league teams are affiliated with MLB teams. But after the end of the 2016 season the scramble will start again if the teams will not extend the PDC’s during the season.
For the Dutch fans among us, the Spinners is the club where Dutch pitcher Swen Huijer played before the Red Sox released him.
