Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Friday March 13

The Yankees left almost all big leaguers in Tampa when they headed to JetBlue Park to take on the Red Sox. The Sox on their turn started most of the Major Leaguers. Xander Bogaerts went 0 for 1, left a runner on base but drew a walk for the Sox. He grounded into an innning ending double play in the second inning.
Brian McCann joined the Yankees to DH. He collected one  hit out of three at bats. Adam Warren, who is competing for a spot in the rotation did very well. He pitched three innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two. Jonathan Galvez was the only Yankee with a multiple hit game (two out of three at bats with a triple and with three runs batted in). Rob Refsnyder got one hit out of three at bats. He struck out once and left two on base. He is putting up some nice numbers. I know that this is still Spring Training, but a BA of .400 cannot be ignored IMHO.
Trailing 2-0 at the start of the fourth inning, the Yankees stepped up. Consecutive singles by Garrett Jones, Brian McCann and Rob Refsnyder loaded the bases before Jonathan Galvez hit a bases clearing triple to right field.
In the top of the seventh the Yankees scored two more runs on a ground rule double hit by Mason Williams that drove in Jonathan Galvez and Aaron Judge. Eventually the Yankees won 5-3.

Playing in a split squad team vs the TIgers, Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 3 with a single in the sixth inning. He struck out in his first at bat in the first. The Braves were clearly no match for the Tigers as they trailed the Motown team after one inning by five runs. Eventually the TIgers won 12-2.

In a battle of the birds, the Orioles fell 5-3 to the Blue Jays. Jonathan Schoop managed to get a hit out of three at bats. He hit a linedrive to right field and eventually scored on a single hit by Joseph Caleb. Playing at second base, Jonathan recorded a couple of outs: a 5-4 force out and two 4-3 ground outs.

The other split squad team of the Braves wasn’t a match for the Mets either. The Mets beat them 13-2. Matt den Dekker drew three walks, struck out once, left a runner on base, scored a run himself and made a couple of outs in center field.
