After having lost the third game of the North Divison championship series vs Chattanooga 7-3, the Biscuits fell 4-1 to the Lookouts yesterday.
In the bottom of the second, the Biscuits took a 1-0 lead, thanks to a homerun hit by Jake Bauers.
But the Lookouts took the lead in the top of the third when the Lookouts scored two runs. A double, a sac fly, a walk and a missed catch by Jake Bauers with a pick off attempt at first base, allowed Stephen Wickens to score from third and Max Kepler advanced to third on the play. Max Kepler scored on the single hit by Travis Harrison to give the Lookouts a 2-1 lead.
In the remainder of the game, Montgomery had a couple of 1-2-3 innings and other quick innings because the hitter hit into double plays.
After Max Kepler led off the fifth inning with a double, he advanced to third on a 6-3 ground out hit by Travis Harrison. A sac fly to right field allowed Kepler to give the Lookouts a 3-1 lead.
A solo homerun by Adam Walker II sealed Montgomery’s fate for good.
The Lookouts will take on the Biloxi Shuckers in the Southern League championship series.
Taylor Guerrieri took the loss for Montgomery. In five innings he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits.
David Hurlbut lasted seven innings for the win. He gave up one run on six hits, walked two and fanned four.
Max Kepler did not live up to the expectations of winning the Southern League MVP award, as he went 1 for 3 (.200 for the series). But Max drew two walks and scored twice, so his share in the victory was rather big.
