Montgomery Biscuits are play off bound
On Monday August 31, the Montgomery Biscuits clinched the North division of the Southern League. After a 2-0 win over the Mobile BayBears, the Birmingham Barons were eliminated from contention. Right now the Barons have even been overtaken by the Tennessee Smokies.
The regular season will last another four games in which the Biscuits will play in Birmingham vs the Barons.
Coming Thursday the Biscuits will start the Southern League Play Offs at Chattanooga’s AT&T Field vs the Lookouts. Game two will also be played in Chattanooga before the series will continue for game three, four and five in the Biscuits’ own Riverwalk Stadium on September 12, 13 and 14. The winner of this best of five series will advance to the Southern League Championship Series. This year the winner of the North will host the final three games of the best of five series.
The Biscuits will finish the second half of the season with the best record in the Southern League. They even have the chance of getting the best overall record if they can overtake the first half winner of the South division, the Biloxi Shuckers. The Shuckers have a 76-57 record, while the Biscuits are 75-59 right now.
The last two times that the Biscuits won the second half of the season (2006 and 2007) they won the Southern League Championship. Let’s hope that they will repeat that feat (*knock on wood*).
The Biscuits have one leading card in the play offs: Jake Faria. The starting pitcher leads all Minor League Baseball (including AAA, AA, A Advanced, etc.) with seventeen victories.
