Bonn Capitals joins Euro League Baseball

Yesterday the Euro League Baseball expanded with the Bonn Capitals as the tenth member. When League president Wim van den Hurk, father of former MLB player and current NPB star Rick van den Hurk, visited the Capitals in July, the club showed some serious interest already.
In addition Haar Disciples became Aspirant Member of EAPB which means they can attend member meetings to stay informed about Euro League Baseball, but will not start playing in the inaugural season. Haar is a suburb of Munich.
Recently the Capitals won the North Division of the German Highest League (Erste Bundesliga) with the slimmest possible margin of one game over the reigning German champions Solingen Alligators. In the quarter finals Bonn is trailing the Mainz Athletics 2-1 in a best of five series.
The name Capitals refers to the days of the Iron Curtain and that Bonn was the Capital of former West Germany. The Capitals are relatively young. The club was founded in 1989 and played it’s first games in 1990. Since 1995 the club is playing in the highest German League.
Next to Bonn and Regensburg, the following teams are members of the ELB: San Marino and Fortitudo Bologna (ITA), Rouen Huskies and Templiers de Senart (FRA), Draci Brno (CZE), CB Barcelona (ESP), Curacao Neptunus and Vaessen Pioniers (NED).
