Dutch Hoofdklasse, Sunday July 5: Pronto DSS @ UVV 4 -2

Because of the start of the first stage of the Tour the France in Utrecht, today’s game between Pronto DSS and UVV was pushed back to 6.00 PM (18.00 hours).

UVV took a 1-0 lead when Joris van Ballegooy hit a lead off single down the left field line. Van Ballegooy advanced to second on a 4-3 ground out hit by Tony Enos. When Joris van Ballegooy tried to steal second base he was caught in a rundown but thanks to a throwing error by second baseman Joffrey Heus, he advanced to third base and moved home to score the opening run.

In the top of the third Pronto DSS got on the board. With one out and the bases loaded, Lex Leijenaar singled to right field and drove in Joffrey Heus for the game tying run. Down to the final out of the inning, Tino van Erk drove the ball to left center field for a single that drove in Mark Smit and Sven Jongejans to give DSS a 3-1 lead. One inning later, Seb Visser tripled down the right field line and was driven in on a single by Joffrey Heus.

It would take UVV until the ninth inning before they would score again. Gilmer Lampe hit a lead off triple to left center field and scored on a sac fly hit by Mike Bazuin. That was the only run that UVV scored in the ninth.

Mike Groen dominated the UVV lineup. In six innings he gave up one unearned run on four hits and walked two and struck out two for the win. Losing pitcher was Jurjen van Zijl, who lasted five innings in which he gave up all four runs to DSS on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Tino van Erk went 3 for 4 for DSS with two runs batted in and a triple. Joris van Ballegooy was the best hitter for UVV as he went 3 for 3 with a run scored and a walk.
