On day one of round six the following games were scheduled:
L&D Amsterdam Pirates – Pronto DSS; HCAW – Vaessen Pioniers; UVV – Curacao Neptunus and Corendon Kinheim – Mampaey the Hawks.
L&D Amsterdam Pirates – Pronto DSS 5 – 2
After scoring a run in the second and one in the third, L&D Amsterdam Pirates had a 2-0 lead halfway the third inning. But DSS would bounce back in the bottom of the third. With one out, Tommy van der Sanden singled to center field, followed by a single towards second base, hit by Mark Smit. Both runners advanced a base when Lex Leijenaar hit a 1-3 ground out. Mitchell Koot then reached first base on a fielding error by first baseman Patrick Bok and advanced on the throw towards homeplate where Tommy van der Sanden and Mark Smit scored two unearned runs. Pirates put things straight in the top of the fourth when Koen Nooij double to left center tield, followed by a bunt single laid down by Roelie Henrique. With runners on the corners, Henrique stole second, followed by a walk by Michael Duursma to load the bases. Two more walks given up to Kenny Berkenbosch and Bas Nooij allowed Pirates to score two more runs in an easy way. After Rob Cordemans was replaced by Tom de Blok in the sixth inning, Daan Hendrix entered the eighth and faced seven batters in two innings for the save. Rob Cordemans earned the win by allowing two unearned runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out six.
Rick Geestman took the loss. In four innings he allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and walked seven.
Best hitter for Pirates was catcher Bas Nooij, who collected two hits out of three at bats with an RBI and two walks.
Mark Smit collected the most hits for DSS, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a strikeout.
HCAW – Vaessen Pioniers 1 – 4
A close game in which a pitching duel would unfold.
HCAW gave Vaessen Pioniers a very hard time tonight. It took Pioniers five innings before they scored the opening run. With two outs, DIrk van ‘t Klooster drew a walk, followed by a double hit to right center field that drove in Van ‘t Klooster. But in the very next inning, HCAW got on the boards when Jarreau Martina led off the sixth with a single. He advanced on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Peter van Doesburg. Mahttps://wordpress.com/post/72478630/3369rtina moved to third on a balk by Ricardo Hernandez. Eventually Martina scoredon a single through the middle of the infield hit by Emmerson Paula. HCAW pitcher Sander Helmendach kept the Pioniers lineup in check rather well until the eighth inning. He gave up two singles in the bottom of the eighth before he was relieved by Tony Kreisel. WIth a 2-1 count, Kreisel gave up a three run homerun to Max Draijer, the first hitter he faced. Eventually HCAW did not score anymore, so the game ended with a 4-1 victory for Vaessen Pioniers.
Despite pitching only a third of the eighth inning, Sedley Karel earned the win after he retired Boyd Tuhumury for the final out of the inning. Bayron Cornelisse earned he save as he retired the side in the ninth. Quintin de Cuba went 2 for 3 with a runs scored, a walk and a srikeout. Jarreau Martina collected three of HCAW’s six hits in four at bats.
UVV – Curacao Neptunus 2 – 11
Once again, Curacao Neptunus proved why they are the team to beat this year. In the bottom of the second inning, Rien Vernooij scored from third on a sac fly hit by Gyenuar Lopez. But in the top of the third, UVV tied the game when Jordan Illis scored from second base on a single down the right field line hit by Tony Enos.
But Neptunus stepped on it in the bottom of the third when Railly Legito drew a lead off walk, followed by a single hit by Gianison Boekhoudt. Both runners advanced a base when Dwayne Kemp grounded out 5-3. When Rien Vernooij singled towards the shortstop, Railly Legito scored and Gianison Boekhoudt advanced to third base. Vernooij was put out at second whit a 1-6 force out when Urvin Kemp reached on a fielder’s choice and Gianison Boekhoudt scored. Shaldimar Daantji drove in Urvin Kemp for the third run with a single to left center field.
UVV scored one in the fifth and so did Neptunus. Neptunus added two more in the sixth, one in the seventh and three more in the eighth inning to make it 11-2. UVV could not take advantage of sloppy play of Neptunus. The team committed four errors.
Diegomar Markwell earned the win. In six innings he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, fanned six and walked one.
Claudio Bavera lasted only 2.2 innings as he took the loss. In those 2.2 innings he allowed four earned runs on six hits and gave up three free passes. Railly Legito saw the ball very well tonight as he went 4 for 5 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored a walk and a stolen base.
Corendon Kinheim – Mampaey the Hawks 8 – 3
A four run first inning proved to be enough for Corendon Kinheim. With the bases loaded, Dudley Leonora singled to left field and drove in Mervin Gario and Kevin Moesquit. A wild pitch thrown by Quinn Tramm made Leonora advance to second and Dashenko Ricardo to third. A ground out by Jeffrey Arends and a single by Sven van der Sanden drove in both runners for the 4-0. A run in the in the second inning and one in the third made it 6-0. But the Hawks were not ready to give up yet.
After giving up two consecutive walks to start the sixth inning, Scott Ronnenbergh retired the next two batters but allowed Berend Ruben to score the the first run for Mampaey the Hawks, before he was replaced by Pim Walsma. Walsma gave up a single to the first batter that he faced: Gregory Trinidad. Steven Wharwood advanced to third on the hit. A wild pitch issued by Walsma allowed Wharwood to score the second run for the Hawks. One inning later the Hawks cut the lead in half before Kinheim scored two insurance runs in the top of the eighth.
Kevin Moesquit went 3 for 3 with two triples (!) an RBI and two runs scored. Kevin also drew two walks. Francisca Lejeune went 2 for 2 for the Hawks with a run scored and a walk.
Scott Ronnenbergh worked 5.2 innings for the win. He gave up two earned runs on two hits, walked seven and fanned three.
Quinn Tramm took the loss after five full innings in which he gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits. He walked three and struck out as many.
