Yankees and Dutchies in MLB, Thursday April 9
Another game, another loss for the Yankees. With C.C. Sabathia on the mound the Blue Jays scored five runs (one earned). In fact it was the famous disastrous inning early in the game that cost the Yankees the game. The Blue Jays did not really outhit the Yankees; Toronto collected only one hit more than New York but the Yankees were less effective. The Yankees had runners on third twice but failed to take advantage as both times the batters struck out.
A positive note: Didi Gregorius got on base twice. Once by a walk and once by his first RBI single. He drove in John Ryan Murphy from second base but was thrown out as first baseman Danny Valencia intercepted the throw towards home and threw it towards second baseman Devon Travis, who covered first base. Didi also made two 6-3 outs (one of them with a nice sliding stop) and caught a linedrive hit by Kevin Pillar. Final score 6-3 Blue Jays.
Xander Bogaerts saw the ball very well yesteday. He drew a walk and also went 3 for 4. His triple in the third inning opened the flood gates and drove in three runs. He was driven in by pitcher Justin Masterson who singled to center field. Xander also reached base on a throwing error by Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis. On the defensive side Xander made a 6-5 force out, he caught a infield fly rule pop out and he was part of a 4-6 force out at second base. The Red Sox eventually won with big numbers again: 6-2.
