Dutchies in US baseball: Kenley out for at least eight weeks

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced yesterday that Curacao native Kenley Jansen will be out for 8 – 12 weeks due to surgery on his left foot.

Jansen felt discomfort to his foot while running and a couple of tests revealed a growth on the fifth metatarsal.

According to the club there is a chance that Jansen can return mid-May.

Jansen’s absence leaves a void in the back end of the bullpen. Available pitchers that could take over the role of closer for the time being are Brandon League, Joel Peralta, Chris Hatcher and Juan Nicasio and  J.P. Howell. Instead of re-signing Brian Wilson and Chris Perez, the Dodgers signed former closers Sergio Santos and David Aardsma to Minor League contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training.

In 50 save opportunities, Janssen converted 44 saves with an ERA of 2.76.
