Turn back the clock game in Fresno

The Fresno Grizzlies will play in Fresno RaisinEaters themed jerseys on every Wednesday homegame.The RaisinEaters were the Pacific Coast League predecessor of the Grizzlies in 1906.
The team played only one season in Fresno as member of the Pacific Coast League when the team came down from Tacoma, Washington. A large crowd of 2,500 (considered much in those days) attended the opening game. But soon the fans would stay away because of the lousy play. After one season the team moved to the state capitol of California, Sacramento. It would take 92 years before the PCL would return to Fresno.  In the years after 1906, Fresno had several Carlifornia State League teams and California League teams. But the level of those leagues was considerably lower.

When the Arizona Diamondbacks started playing in 1998, the Giants AAA farm team, the Phoenix Firebirds, had to leave and found a new home in Fresno’s Chuckhansi Park. The Giants decided to leave Fresno after sixteen years. Fresno was in a state of panic. The Giants were the only parent club that they ever knew. In the meantime the Houston Astros have signed a two year PDC with the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies played a minor role in the movie Parential Guidance that featured Billy Crystal as voice of the Grizzlies.
