The El Paso Chihuhuas, AAA team of the San Diego Padres in the Pacific Coast League, have announced that Pat Murphy will return as their manager in 2015.
Murphy has a very long resume in the baseball world. From 1988 through 1994 he managed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In that period the team had a 318-116-1 record (.732). Despite reaching the NCAA regional finals in 1992, 1993 and 1994, the team never got any further than that.
His longest stint as an university coach was from 1995 through 2009, when he served as the manager of the Arizona Sun Devils. In that period the team won Pac-10 championships in 2000, 2007, 2008 and 2009. But desite reaching the college world series, the Sun Devils never won a championship in that period. Murphy’s career record at ASU was 629–284–1.

In 2010 Murphy was hired by the San Diego Padres as as Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. In 2011 and 2012 he managed the Padres A short season team, the Eugene Emeralds. Since 2013 Murphy manages the Padres AAA affiliation. In 2013 still as Tucson Padres and from 2014 as El Paso Chihuahuas.
The Dutch baseball fans will remember Pat Murphy as manager/coach of the Dutch National team. He managed the team in 1987 and 2000. He will be most remembered by the Dutch as the manager that led the Dutch to their first ever victory against Cuba in an official tournament during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney Australia.
