Holland Series 2014: Game 3

  vs

In game one Diegomar Markwell was hit hard and Kevin Heijstek was practically unhittable. Game three was the other way around.

Kevin Heijstek struggled in the first two innings. He allowed two runs on four hits in the first inning. In the second he allowed one more run on two hits, but eventually he pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam. After the second inning he settled down and kept DOOR Neptunus from scoring any more runs.
Heijstek was replaced in the seventh by Jurrian Koks when Heijstek allowed runners on first and second. With only one out Koks retired the remaining two batters.

Even though Heijstek settled down, he didn’t get any help from his team mates, mainly because Diegomar Markwell was dominating. He went the distance and allowed just seven hits, struck out twelve and didn’t give up a walk.

Diegomar Markwell was flat out dominating through nine innings.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates used four pitchers. Kevin Heijstek lasted 6.1 innings in which he gave up three runs on nine hits. Heijstek struck out two and gave up two walks.
Jurrian Koks served as fire brigade in the seventh to get out of the inning. He retired the two batters he faced.
Kyle Ward entered the eighth inning and only faced Gianison Boekhoudt, who reached base on a fielding error. Then Ward was replaced by Daan Hendrix, who pitched the two remaining innnings in which he allowed just one hit and struck out two.

In the bottom of the ninth, things got thrilling when L&D Amsterdam got runners on third and second with two outs. Remco Draijer hit a single to right field on which Kenny Berkenbosch scored and on which Bas Nooij advanced to third. But eventually Diegomar Markwell clinched the victory when he struck out Percy Isenia.

Best hitter for DOOR Neptunus was Adrian Anthony, who went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Remco Draijer had the most impact for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. He went 3 for 4 and drove in the only run for the team from Amsterdam.

This win was very convincing. It confirms my point of view that DOOR Neptunus is still the team to beat.

The next two games will be played next Saturday and Sunday in Amsterdam as well.
