Dutchies in the Major Leagues: Saturday September 13, 2014

Now the season of the Minor Leagues is over, except for the Pacific Coast League, I’ll switch to players from the Netherlands and Netherlands Antilles in the Major Leagues. Never were there so many players from my home country/Netherlands Antilles playing in the Bigs: Xander Bogaerts, Andrelton Simmons, Didi Gregorius, Roger Bernadina, Kenley Jansen, Jonathan Schoop and Jurrickson Profar (on the DL).

Xander Bogaerts:
The Boston Red Sox fell 7-1 to the Kansas City Royals. Xander Bogaerts connected for one of the only four hits that the Red Sox collected last night. Xander went 1 for 4, struck out once and left a runner on base.

Andrelton Simmons:
Andrelton also went 1 for 4 with a strikeout and a runner left on base. He was the starting point of a 6-4-3 double play though. The Braves lost 2-3 to the Texas Rangers.

Didi Gregorius:
Didi scored two runs. One after he had hit a single and one after he had drawn a walk. Didi was the center piece of a 4-6-3 double play. The Diamondbacks had a convincing 10-4 win over the Padres.

Roger Bernadina:
Just before Roger would head to Europe to join team Netherlands, he was called up by the Dodgers. Last night he got a pinch hit appearance but didn’t get a basehit since he was hit by a pitch in the ninth. Since the Dodgers slaughtered the Giants 17-0 it wasn’t really a save situation. Therefore Kenley Jansen stayed in the bullpen.
