A limited number of Dutchies saw action yesterday. The Dodgers won with big numbers so Kenley Jansen could take a rest. His team mate Roger Bernadina was kept on the bench. The Red Sox didn’t play, so no Xander Bogaerts either. Jonathan Schoop entered last night’s game vs the Blue Jays in the ninth as…
Belgian starter Cedric Desmedt threw a 143 pitch complete game that was won by the Red Hawks 5-0. This time the victim was Great Britain. Belgium scored five runs (one unearned) on six hits. Desmedt allowed three hits, walked four, fanned six, hit two batters with a pitch and threw one wild pitch. The last…
In tonight’s game, the Dutch squad showed two faces. One that gave seven runs in three innings and one that could turn around the game. Dutch starter Orlando Yntema gave up three runs in the first inning on two singles by Daniel Martinez and Oscar D. Angulo and a homerun by Jesus E. Golindano. Golindano:…
It looks like the Braves have lost it completely. Last night they lost from the team with the worst W-L record in MLB, the Texas Ranger: 3-10. Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 4 and left two runners on base. On the defensive side, Simmons was the initiator of two 6-4-3 double plays. Kenley Jansen clinched…
Next to the Belgium’s no-hitter and the perfect game by Dutch pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek, there were four other games played as well. Spain needed seven innings to shut out Russia. Spanish starter Eric Gonzalez went six full innings in which he allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one. Germany clinched their second win…
In a game in which it seemed that the Dutch pulled the breaks a bit, starting pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek dominated the Greek lineup through seven innings. In those seven frames Bolsenbroek struck out ten and didn’t allow a single Greek baserunner. In 2012 Bolsenbroek participated at the WBC qualifiers as a part of the German…
After two games in which they played good ball and kept it close until some bad inning ruined it all, the Red Hawks (as the moniker of team Belgium goes) finally won their first game. Normally I only write about the Netherlands, but in this case I thought the Red Hawks deserved some attention; especially…
Now the season of the Minor Leagues is over, except for the Pacific Coast League, I’ll switch to players from the Netherlands and Netherlands Antilles in the Major Leagues. Never were there so many players from my home country/Netherlands Antilles playing in the Bigs: Xander Bogaerts, Andrelton Simmons, Didi Gregorius, Roger Bernadina, Kenley Jansen, Jonathan…
No surprises on day two. There were a couple of mercy rule shortened games, a game that needed extra inings and a rain shortened game. Sweden and Great Britain led off the day at 9.30. They had to catch up yesterday’s rained out game. The British won 7-1. Spain only needed six innings to beat…
The Dutch needed five innings tonight to beat the Czech Republic. No, it wasn’t a mercy rule victory. The game was called after five innings due to rainfall. The Dutch had a score to settle. Two years ago, the Czechs beat the Dutch in overtime. This was the first win by the Czech Republic over…
