Next to the Belgium’s no-hitter and the perfect game by Dutch pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek, there were four other games played as well. Spain needed seven innings to shut out Russia. Spanish starter Eric Gonzalez went six full innings in which he allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one. Germany clinched their second win…
In a game in which it seemed that the Dutch pulled the breaks a bit, starting pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek dominated the Greek lineup through seven innings. In those seven frames Bolsenbroek struck out ten and didn’t allow a single Greek baserunner. In 2012 Bolsenbroek participated at the WBC qualifiers as a part of the German…
After two games in which they played good ball and kept it close until some bad inning ruined it all, the Red Hawks (as the moniker of team Belgium goes) finally won their first game. Normally I only write about the Netherlands, but in this case I thought the Red Hawks deserved some attention; especially…
Now the season of the Minor Leagues is over, except for the Pacific Coast League, I’ll switch to players from the Netherlands and Netherlands Antilles in the Major Leagues. Never were there so many players from my home country/Netherlands Antilles playing in the Bigs: Xander Bogaerts, Andrelton Simmons, Didi Gregorius, Roger Bernadina, Kenley Jansen, Jonathan…
No surprises on day two. There were a couple of mercy rule shortened games, a game that needed extra inings and a rain shortened game. Sweden and Great Britain led off the day at 9.30. They had to catch up yesterday’s rained out game. The British won 7-1. Spain only needed six innings to beat…
The Dutch needed five innings tonight to beat the Czech Republic. No, it wasn’t a mercy rule victory. The game was called after five innings due to rainfall. The Dutch had a score to settle. Two years ago, the Czechs beat the Dutch in overtime. This was the first win by the Czech Republic over…
On day one, only one game was decided in less than nine innings. The Dutch had no mercy with Croatia. The first game in Regensburg (Sweden vs Great Britain) was rained out and has been rescheduled for tomorrow. The French beat the Germans 3-2, but the score could have been a lot bigger. In the…
In today’s second game in Ostrava (Czech Republic), the Dutch took on Croatia. Ostrava was lucky since Regensburg in Germany was bothered by the rain and the first game there was rained out. The Dutch were the road team and started the game at bat. Hainley Statia led off but grounded out to first base…
When I posted the rosters of the Netherlands and Italy, I thought that it would be good to post the rosters of the other countries as well. Group B Croatia: Pitchers: Darko Kvaternik, James Summers, Dejan Marin, Franko Vrlic Kovavic (also OF), Matko Dabo, Matija Grofelnik (also IF), Aleksandar Kruhek (also IF), Matija Sertic, Christian…
