Hoofdklasse/Overgangsklasse play downs 2014: Game 5

Fifth game in the play down series and again the road team won.

DSS had a big inning in the third.
In the third DSS’ Mitchell Dautzenberg led off with a single to right center field followed by a walk and a fielding error after a bunt laid down by Sven Jongejans. A sac fly by Tino van Erk drove in the first run. Two more runs were driven in on a single by Mitchell Koot to give DSS a 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning DSS added one more run to their score.

Another big inning for DSS in the sixth. Joffrey Heus opened the inning with a single, folllowed by Allan Hazel who laid down a sac bunt. But a throwing error by catcher Arshwin Roks allowed Hazel to reach first base safely and Heus to advance to third base. So with runners on the corners Max Ploegstra drove in Heus on a single. Singles by Miner and Jongejans drove in two more runs for DSS. With runners on the corners, Tino van Erk drew a walk to load the bases. When Mitchell Koot hit in a 4-6-3 double play, Miner scored the eighth run for DSS.

All Mampaey The Hawks could do was scoring two runs in the sixth. With one out and runners on the corners, Bob de Bruijn hit a sac fly to drive in Kevin Moesquit from third base. Gregory Trinidad eventually scored the second run for the Hawks when Arshwin Roks got on base on a fielding error by shortstop Mitchell Dautzenberg.

Tim Geestman entered the game in relief in the eighth for DSS and cruised through the final two innings. He allowed only a walk in the eighth but retired the other batters that he faced.

Tim Halderman earned the win after pitching seven complete innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits, gave up two walks and struck out seven.

Best batter for DSS was Ryan Miner who went 3 for 4 with one RBI.

Mampaey The Hawks used three pitchers: Simons, Van Heijningen and Van Veen. These three combined for eight runs on twelve hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

I cannot not remember a series like this where no home team earned a victory.
With this win DSS has earned a promotion to the Hoofdklasse.
