2023 Belgian Series: Pioneers Cuts Spartans’ Lead Into Half (a Photo Impression)

In a must win game for Hoboken Pioneers, the reigning Belgian champion did what it had to do: winning game three. What started as an exciting game, fizzled out unfortunately. Hoboken beat Spartans 9-0.

Pioneers starter Kevin Desmedt had a slow start. In the first two innings, he struggled a bit and gave Spartans the opportunity to blow the game wide open. Two walks and a bunt loaded the bases, but Desmedt pitched out of this jam thanks to a fly out to second base, an out at home plate and a K.

In the bottom of the third inning, Hoboken took the lead when Benjamin Goffaux got on base thanks to a leadoff single through the left side. A sac bunt moved him over to second base and a single to left field by Luis Unda, drove him in.

In the fourth inning, Pioneers blew the game wide open. Thanks to doubles by Rob Lewis and Benjamin Goffaux, a bunt by Wesley Janssens, a walk and a fielding error, Hoboken scored four runs.

In the sixth inning, Hoboken scored three more runs, but didn’t push for the two extra runs to end the game in mercy rule fashion.

Kevin Desmedt earned today’s win. He lasted seven innings in which he allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four. Anderson Denny Gerdel Nieto took the loss. In 5.1 innings he allowed eight (four earned) runs on nine hits and three walks as he struck out four.

Rob Lewis was the best hitter for Hoboken Pioneers, as he went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Yours truly didn’t make as many photos as usual because he met a lot of people he knows and had a lot of chats.
