Holland Series 2014: Game 5

        vs

Where L&D Amsterdam Pirates managed to win Saturday’s game in a comeback fashion, they couldn’t on Sunday.

DOOR Neptunus took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Gianison Boekhoudt led off the inning with a doube and advanced to third on a 4-3 groundout hit by Kalian Sams. Dwayne Kemp drove in the run with a sac fly to center field.

In the third inning, L&D Amsterdam’s Jesse Aussems led off with a single to center field. He advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Rachid Gerard. Eventually Aussems scored on a single hit by Michael Duursma to tie the game at one.

A single and a stolen base by Dwayne Kemp and a single by Daniel Fernandes followed by a homerun hit by Shurman Marlin brought in three runs for DOOR Neptunus. This was too much for L&D Amsterdam Pirates to overcome.

The closest the team from Amsterdam came to scoring a run was in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, Roelie Henrique drew a walk. The next batter, Michael Duursma, was hit by a pitch. This was a sign for manager Evert-Jan van ‘t Hoen to replace Berry van Driel with Kevin Kelly. Kelly who was tabbed with the loss on Saturday, kept his cool and retired Bas de Jong with a strikeout to end the inning. Kelly retired the side in the ninth and got the save on his account.

Berry van Driel earned the win after he lasted 7.2 innings. He allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out five.
Kevin Kelly struck out two hitters in the remaining 1.1 innings.

Jos de Jong lasted 5.1 innings for L&D Amsterdam. He gave up all the runs that DOOR Neptunus scored (four on six hits). De Jong fanned five batters. Jurrian Koks pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two hits and struck out two batters in his outing.

Best hitter for DOOR Neptunus was Shurman Marlin, who went 2 for 3. He drove in two runs.
