Tampa Bay Rays pick up contract of Dashenko Ricardo

Curaçao native Dashenko Ricardo will play for the Tampa Bay Rays organization the upcoming season. The Rays picked up his contract from the independent Sioux Falls Canaries.

It will be the first time Ricardo will play in affiliated baseball since 2013, when he was playing for the Great Lakes Loons (A Full Season Midwest League), the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA Southern League), then affiliated to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA, Pacific Coast League) also affiliated to the Dodgers back then. After the Dodgers did release him just before the start of the 2014 season, he came to the Netherlands and joined Corendon Kinheim from Haarlem. After the 2015 season, when Kinheim lost all of its players and was demoted to the overgangsklasse, Ricardo joined Curaçao Neptunus. In his second year with Kinheim, Ricardo had the second-best batting average in the Dutch hoofdklasse with .420.

In 2017 and 2018 Ricardo spent time in the American Association with the independent Lincoln Salt Dogs before they traded him to the Sioux Falls Canaries.

Dashenko Ricardo is one of the most complete players that has ever played in the Dutch hoofdklasse. He has speed, is athletic, has a good arm and is a good hitter.

To which Rays’ minor league team Ricardo will be appointed, is not clear yet.
