De Glaskoning Twins acquires old acquaintance as third base coach
Today team manager Patrick van Gool announced the name of the new third base coach of De Glaskoning Twins. Old acquaintance because he used to play for the team in 2016 when the team was still under the helm of Kevin Roovers. At the time, the new third base coach played in the outfield.
Diehard Twins fans will know who we are talking about: Andrian Anthony.
Anthony was born in 1986 on the isle of Curaçao. At the age of five, he started to play baseball. In 2000, he moved to the Netherlands where he was picked up by the baseball school of erstwhile manager of the Dutch national team and former infielder of the New York Yankees Robert Eenhoorn. In the buildup to his hoofdklasse career, Adrian played for the Rotterdam Unicorns baseball academy, for Euro Stars and for Tridents (the farm team of Neptunus).
In 2005, he debuted in the Dutch hoofdklasse at the age of nineteen. In the following season, Adrian moved to ADO in The Hague where he stayed two seasons before moving to HCAW in Bussum. After having spent four seasons with HCAW, he returned to Neptunus. In 2012 he had the best year of his career as he hit .303 with an OBP of .426.
After spending three more years with Neptunus, Adrian decided to join De Glaskoning Twins in 2016, which appeared to be his final season. In October of that year, he became a father and decided he wanted to spend more time with his family. Another important reason why he stopped playing baseball was his professional career. Currently Adrian is working as an account manager for a Taiwanese shipping company where he is focusing on the export to the Far East for his customers.
Next to having played for several hoofdklasse clubs, Adrian also played for the U23 Dutch team and won the European Championship in 2003. One year later, he also participated in the U23 World Cup in Taiwan.
In 2017, he was part of the coaching staff of the Dutch team that won the Pony League World Series in Lafayette, Indiana.
The choice for Anthony doesn’t quite come as a surprise as he played together with the new head coach of De Glaskoning Twins, Jeffrey Arends. Arends had a major say in Anthony’s appointment.
