Several MLB clubs to celebrate anniversary in 2018

The Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays will celebrate an anniversary this season.  The Marlins will celebrate their 25th season and the Rays their 20th. But next to these two clubs, the Rockies (also 25) and the Diamondbacks (20) will also celebrate a milestone.

With the firesale fresh in their memory, it is likely the Marlins fans won’t care much about the 25th anniversary of their club. The Marlins unveiled the anniversary logo yesterday.

In the weekend of June 8-10, they will wear their original Florida Marlins uniforms with teal lettering.

This uniform was worn from their inaugural season (1993) through 2003. The all teal cap they wore with it was replaced by an all black one in their third season. Even though I like the current uniform, I think the original uni was the best they ever had.

Also the Tampa Bay Rays will do something with their uniform. What remains a secret. Last night, they placed a teaser on Twitter with the message “tomorrow”. The photo showed a small part of a cap logo. Looking to the shape, it may very well be they will bring back the Devil Ray logo (temporarily). More about this later today or tomorrow.

The Colorado Rockies also celebrate their 25th anniversary. A while ago they unveiled Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Colorado Rockies 25th anniversary logotheir anniversary logo. To celebrate this season the team has asked fans to vote for their all-time Rockies 25-man roster. Next to his 25-man roster, the Rockies will celebrate this milestone with several themed events and promotions. Several Rockies alumni appear during games as well.

Despite the fact the Diamondbacks will also DBacks logocelebrate their 20th anniversary, they haven’t announced any promotions yet (as far as I can see). They are selling a 20th-anniversary jersey though. This jersey is a regular jersey with an anniversary logo on the right sleeve.

Of all these expansion teams, the Rockies were the first to reach the playoffs in 1995. The Marlins though were the first to win a World Series, back in 1997. The Diamondbacks won it all in 2001 and in the meantime, the Rays have reached the World Series as well, but they fell to the Phillies in 2008.
