Kalian Sams wins CanAm League title with Quebec

In a vastly superior way, the Quebec Capitales have won the 2017 CanAm League championship. The Capitales swept the Rockland Borders in three games (7-5, 7-2 and 9-3).
Even though Kalian Sams went 0 for 1 last night with two walks and a sac fly, he was a big contributor in this series. In three games he went 6 for 9 with six RBI. In the second game of the CanAm League championship, the Dutch outfielder collected four hits out of four at bats, driving in five runs and hit two home runs.
Sams became the best hitter in the CanAm playoffs with a batting average of .538.

In the championship series, the Quebec Capitales outhit the Rockland Boulders 33-19. The Capitales played flawless baseball as they did not commit an error, while the Boulders committed six errors throughout the series.
In last night’s game, two hitters went 3 for 4 for the Capitales: Philippe Craig- Saint-Louis, who scored a run and James McOwen, who drove in a run, scored twice and hit a home run. The most impact in this game had Balbino Fuenmayor, who drove in three runs. on two home runs.
After two innings, Quebec had a 5-0 lead already and never looked back. Five Quebec hitters had multi-hit games. Starting pitcher Karl Gelinas pitched 7.1 innings in which he gave up three runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out four and ended the playoffs with a 2.70 ERA.
After taking that 5-0 lead in the first two innings, Quebec scored two runs in the fifth on Fuenmayor’s two run home run and in the seventh on back-to-back home runs by Fuenmayor and James McOwen.
This year’s championship is the seventh in total for the Quebec Capitales and the first since 2013.
