Yankees and Dutchies in the Major League, Sunday April 19

Didi Gregorius had a good game despite leaving five runners at base. He went 2 for 4 as he legged out an infield hit and singled to right field. Michael Pineda earned the win even though he didn’t have his best stuff yesterday. In 5.2 innings he allowed three runs on seven hits. He also struck out five and gave up a walk. Garrett Jones went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two runners left on base. Thanks to this win, the Yankees are at .500, but I expect that the coming opponent (the Tigers) will be too strong to stay at .500 or even to improve.

Shelby Miller cruised through six innings as he allowed two runs on five hits. He gave up three free passes and fanned six for the win. Andrelton Simmons hit a modest 1 for 3 but he also drew a walk. He was part of 6-3 and a 6-4-3 double play.
The Braves won 5-2.

The Red Sox fell to the Orioles 8-3. Xander Bogaerts went 0 for 4 with a strikout and three runners left on base. He was the initiator of a 6-4-3 double play. David Ortiz was tossed because he did not agree with a check swing call by the third base umpire. I must admit that the call was very questionable. Perhaps the frustration about his own performance so far (only .231 for a batting average, rather low for his standards) got the best of him.
