Springfield Cardinals Will Be No More
In a press meeting, the Springfield Cardinals (AA affiliate of the St. Louis namesake) announced there won’t be any team with that name anymore after operating under that moniker for twenty-one years.
But no worries, there will still be AA baseball in Springfield. Yes even a St. Louis Cardinals affiliation. The Springfield team announced it will rebrand in 2027. The team will adopt a new name, logos and uniforms while continuing to call Route 66 Stadium their home ballpark.
The club is following a trend where minor league clubs leave the parent name behind and opt for a more local name, honoring the area/city they are located in. On the Cards’ website it was stated that in 2005 (the inaugural year) there were twenty-two MiLB clubs carrying the parent club name.
The team will unveil the new name, branding and marks at a free brand launch party at Route 66 Stadium on Tuesday, October 6. Timing and more information will be made public in the coming weeks. In 2027 that number will be down to eight.
This rebranding will not be something like their temporary monikers Cashew Chickens or Ozarks. No, it will be permanent.

The Springfield Cardinals’ website stated: “Over the final two regular season homestands, and potentially the Texas League playoffs, the team will continue to play as the Springfield Cardinals. For the final 12 regular season home games, starting on Tuesday, August 25, the Cardinals will honor the unforgettable memories of over seven million fans who have attended games over the past 22 years through special in-game programming, fan opportunities and commemorative giveaways.”
