Baseball Shorts: The Wheel Play
In this episode we pay attention to the Wheel Play. Experts will know what this is about. Read on and you will learn what the term exactly means.
A wheel play is part of a defensive play when the opponent lays down a bunt with runners on base.
When the ball is bunted to the left or right side of the infield, the corner infielders charge the ball in an attempt to field it and make the out at first base. The shortstop and/ or the second baseman are supposed to take over the position of the third- and/or first baseman. When this happens, they call it a wheel play as the infielders rotate like a wheel.
Below you can see a perfect execution of the wheel play.
