Lowell Spinners Are Back With a Vengeance
Finally!!! Lowell (MA) has back its team. Not as a farm team of the Boston Red Sox or any other MLB team, but as a collegiate team.

The Lowell Spinners were one of the forty MiLB clubs that were cut by MLB in a money grab move by the greedy MLB owners. In the following years, the Red Sox mulled a return of the Spinners to their farm system but that never came to fruition.
But today, the Lowell Spinners announce their return in 2026. This time as part of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
The club will be backed by an owner group of former MLB players, and even former Spinner players. Local businessmen Marc Deschenes and John Croteau, both high-ranking executives with Pison Technologies, a Boston-based wearable technology firm will own the club. The ownership group also has several limited partners, with some notable names including Red Sox World Series champion Johnny Damon, former MLB outfielder Zach Sorenson and current Toronto Blue Jays first base coach Mark Budzinski. Former Spinners President & GM Tim Bawmann has returned to lead Operations.
“The biggest thing for me is trying to go out there and bring competitive baseball back to Lowell in the summertime,” Deschenes said.“ We’re building a team that will match the former Spinners’ level of play in the New York-Penn League, and we’re building a roster of top local talent.”
Just like the former MiLB club, this edition of the Spinners will play at LeLacheur Park, which was constructed in 1996.

The former league in which the Lowell Spinners used to play, the New York-Penn League ceased operations in 2020 following the pandemic and Minor League Baseball’s restructuring, which eliminated 40 teams. Two former NYPL clubs, the Vermont Lake Monsters and Norwich (Conn.) Sea Unicorns, joined the Futueres Collegiate Baseball League in 2021. Minor-league teams, including the Spinners, did not play during the shortened 2020 season, and the Spinners have not played since September 2019.

Next to the traditional logo, the Spinners will have an updated logo that depicts a coil holding a baseball bat.
The club presented the new uniforms (see photo on top) and the new caps. The two on-field caps the club will sport are one with a white crown and a red lid with the modern updated logo on the front, and a cap with a red crown and a black lid with the traditional logo on the front. A third cap, which is not for sale (yet) is an all red cap with the modern updated logo on the front. It can be seen on the left on the photo on top of this blog post.

The modern updated logo also serves as the clubs mascot. Fans will have the opportunity to give it a name. At the bottom of the front page of the Spinners’ website, fans can fill out a small form. Participants will receive a 10% discount on Spinners merch.
