Vintage Movie Night With The Buffalo Bisons

Coming Saturday, the Buffalo Bisons will have a Vintage Movie Nigh, featuring the movie “The Natural,” which was mainly shot in the former home of the Bisons, War Memorial Stadium.

To stick with the theme, the Bisons will sport New York Knights inspired jerseys with the wonderboy lightning bolt logo on the right sleeve and a logo that looks like the Centennial Baseball logo, MLB teams wore in 1939. But this logo is a. nod to the ballpark the movie was filmed: Buffalo War Memorial Stadium.

At the end of the game against the Omaha Storm Chasers, the movie “The Natural” will be shown on the Sahlen Field scoreboard.

The Bisons Vintage Movie Night on Saturday, July 19 (6:35 p.m.) will also include several in-game tributes to The Natural as well as special promotions. The game will have a Game-Used Broken Bat Giveaway Every Inning, as one lucky fan each inning will get a broken bat from a Bisons player, in tribute to Hobbs breaking ‘Wonderboy’ in the movie’s final game.

Two Buffalo Hall of Famers will throw out and catch the first pitch, but wouldn’t it be great if Robert Redford, who starred as Roy Hobbs, would be given that honor?

The Bisons will have some typical Minor League entertainment as they also designate one Omaha Storm Chaser as “The Whammer of the Game,” with Vintage Movie Night merchandise being handed out to a fan every time The Whammer strikes out. Meanwhile, a Bisons player will be designated as ‘The Natural’ and could win a lucky Bisons fan some Vintage Movie Night merchandise with a home run in the game.
