Dutchies in the Minor League play offs

For most of the Minor Leagues, the regular season is over and are the clubs shifting to play off mode. Only the Pioneer League is still in its regular season, which will end coming Thursday.

This year there are several Dutchies whose teams have reached the play offs.

Let’s start with AAA level.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor OKC DodgersAruban catcher Shawn Zarraga will head to the play offs with the Oklahoma City Dodgers. The Dodgers won their division, the Pacific Coast American Northern, with a 12.5 game lead over the Colorado Springs SkySox. Zarrag did not have much playing time with the AAA Dodgers. It isn’t clear if it is the lack of playing time, but Shawn struggled at the plate this year. Where Shawn hit a very respectable .303 last year with the OKC Dodgers, this year he only hit .167.

Then AA level

Ozhaino Albies will head to the Southern League play offs with the Mississippi Braves. They will face the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a best of five series for the South Division championship.  This year’s Southern League batting champion has played as second baseman since Dansby Swanson was promoted to the Bigs, since the Braves see their future second baseman in him.

Juan Carlos Sulbaran will head to the play offs as well. His team, the Springfield Cardinals Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Springfield Cardinalsof the Texas League won the first half of the season. The Cardinals will take on the winners of the second half, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals for the North Division championship.
Juan Carlos had a very instable season. He started with a solid start with AAA Memphis. But after his numbers declined, he was sent down to Springfield. Also with Springfield he had good outings and bad outings. He finished the season the season with a 3.95 ERA and a 3-4 record.

A Advanced

The High Desert Mavericks will head to the play offs as the team won the first half of the AfbeeldingsresultaatCalifornia League season. One of their players, Yuremi Profar had a good season in the Cal League. Playing as a utility man, Juremi posted a fielding percentage of .979. At bat Yuremi’s batting average mostly hovered above .300 but in the final weeks of the season he got in a slump and Yuremi’s batting average ended right at .300.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Bakersfield BlazeAlso the Bakersfield Blaze and Gianfranco Wawoe have advanced to the Cal League play offs. The Blaze clinched the second half title and will face the San Jose Giants in the first round of the play offs. Gianfranco finished the season with a .288 batting average. His defense was so so as he committed twenty errors in 92 games.

Sicnarf Loopstok and the Lynchburg HillCats will take on the Potomac Nationals for the Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Lynchburg HillCatsNorthern Division title of the Carolina League. The HillCats clinched a play off berth by finishing in a second half tie with first half winner Potomac Nationals.
Sicnarf started the season at A Full Season level with the Lake County Captains. During the season the catcher from Aruba was promoted to A Advanced. Strange enough, Sicnarf’s batting average with the Captains wasn’t as good as it was with the HillCats, .213 and .281.

A Full Season

Ray Patrick Didder and Kevin Josephina will go to the play offs of the South Carolina League together. The Braves will face the Charleston RiverDogs in the series for the Southern Division championship. Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Rome Braves
Ray Patrick had a decent season as he hit .274 for the seasno and posted a .979 fielding percentage as outfielder.
His team mate, Kevin Josephina started the season with the Danville Braves but during the season he was promoted to Rome. With Danville, Kevin hit .300. After his promotion, his batting average dropped to .267 but of course it takes time to adapt to a new level.
His fielding percentage with Rome ended at .911, so there is room for improvement for the second baseman.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Cedar Rapids KernelsIn the Midwest League, the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Zander Wiel advanced to the play offs where they will face the Wisconsin TimberRattlers.
Zander is a typical first baseman. He hits for power but not for average. Zander finished the season with a .259 batting average. But next to this average, Zander had a slugging percentage of .333.  Zander belted 19 homeruns, 8 triples and 27 doubles.

A Short Season

One Dutchie will play in the play offs at A Short Season level. Chris Pieters and the Eugene Afbeeldingsresultaat
Emeralds have reached the play offs by winning the first half of the season of the Northwest League. Chris split the season between the outfield and first base. At first base Chris did a pretty decent job with a fielding percentage of .987. In the outfield Chris posted a fielding percentage of .909.
In his last ten games Chris’ batting average dropped from .270 to .242.
