Deurne Spartans Trailing Big in Suspended Game

The opening match between the Deurne Spartans and the Rouen Huskies was suspended in the top of the second inning due to inclement weather. At the time of suspension, the Spartans were trailing by seven runs.

Rouen Huskies 9 – 2 Deurne Spartans (susp. in top of second inning)

With aggressive base running, Rouen collected four runs in the first inning. Leading off, Hugo Blondel led off with a double to left field. He advanced to third on a sac fly to center field. After Jake MacKenzie drew a walk and stole second, Gabriel Harrison singled to center field to drive in the two runners in scoring position. Harrison who had advanced to second on the throw towards home plate during the previous play, scored on Bastien Dagneau’s single. The latter advanced to second on a single by Joris Bert and got on third base on a walk, drawn by Luc Viger. Another walk given up by Jose Luis Larringa Ocampo, drove in the fourth run for Rouen.

Deurne got on the board in the bottom of the first as it scored two runs; one on a bases-loaded HBP, and one on a bases-loaded fielders choice that allowed Johiner Alfonso Arguizones Ocanto to score.

But in the top of the second, Rouen added five more runs before the game was suspended due to inclement weather. At that moment, Rouen only had one out and a runner on second.

With a tight schedule of three games per day on one field, it remains to be seen when this game will be continued. A possibility may be to move one of the games to neighboring fields. The closest baseball club is in Louviers but it remains to be seen if the field is suitable for European Cup baseball.

As soon as the organization comes up with news about this game, you will read it here.
