Batting Cage of The Solingen Alligators Burns Down

German 2. Bundesliga club Solingen Alligators was hit by a fire last Saturdaynight. The Solingen fire brigade could prevent that the fire hit the clubhouse as well.

At the arrival of the fire brigade, the batting case was on fire. The adjacent storage room was in danger to be destroyed as well.

The first responders “attacked” the fire from three sides. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, the fire code was raised to “Stage 2.” Fighting the fire proved particularly challenging due to the difficult access and limited water supply.

Due to the heavy smoke, the public was informed through a warning app and asked to keep windows and doors closed. A total of around 60 professional and volunteer firefighters, as well as numerous fire engines, were deployed. Thanks to this swift and coordinated response, the fire was quickly brought under control and further spread to vegetation was prevented.

The fire site and the surrounding area were subsequently checked for embers. A fire department drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera was also deployed. Kotter Street was completely closed in the area for the duration of the operation. The police have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire and are currently ongoing.

According to the club, the damage is around €120,000. Someone has started a Go-fund me action to help the club to raise money to rebuild the batting cage.
