European Champions Cup 2019: Day 4

On day four of the ECC, the following games were scheduled:

Deurne Spartans @ Rouen Huskies, Parmaclima Parma @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates, Arrows Ostrava @ Bonn Capitals and UnipolSai Bologna @ Curaçao Neptunus.

Deurne Spartans  4  –  5  Rouen Huskies
Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Deurne Spartans logoA very bitter loss for the Deurne Spartans. After the team took an unexpected 4-0 lead, they blew that lead in the ninth when Rouen tied it. Eventually, Rouen scored the winning run thanks to a wild pitch.
In the first five innings, neither team did score a run but in the top of the sixth, Joannes David Ochoa homered to give Spartans the 1-0 lead. It even got crazier when Spartans scored three runs (of which two unearned) in the eighth inning. But unfortunately for the Belgian champion, the lead would not be enough. Rouen scored when Angel Soriano doubled, followed by singles, hit by Maxime Lefevre and David Gauthier.
In the ninth, the bubble burst for the Spartans as their defense collapsed. Two fielding errors, a balk, a triple, a single and a wild pitch led to four more runs that handed the Spartans their fourth loss of the tournament.
Both starting pitchers went the distance. Andersen Gerdel took the loss and Keino Perez earned the win. Perez allowed four runs (one earned) on eleven hits and four walks as he struck out five, Gerdel gave up five runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks as he fanned eleven.
Angel Soriano was the best hitter for the Rouen Huskies as he went 4 for 5 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

Game report

Bonn Capitals  7  –  6  Arrows Ostrova
In a wild game, the Bonn Capitals blew a 6-2 lead and after Zacry Dodson struck out the Arrows’ side in the ninth, the game went into extra innings.
Bonn scored four times in the second to take a commanding lead, partially on a two-run home run by Wilson Lee. Through the innings, Ostrava inched closer and tied the game in the seventh when it scored three runs. With runners on the corners, Terrell Joyce cleared the fence at center field.
With the dreaded tie-breaker rule in place, Bonn put runners on first and second and took the lead on a double by Zacry Dodson. Ostrava on its turn couldn’t cash in with the runners on first and second, so eventually, Bonn took the win. Ostrava will now face the Deurne Spartans tomorrow in the relegation game.
Zacry Dodson earned the win after four innings in relief in which he allowed one hit and struck out eight. Christopher Burkholder took the loss after five innings. He gave up the winning (unearned) run in the tie-break. Burkholder gave up three hits, walked three and struck out four.
Christopher Goebel, Lee Wilson and Nicholas Miceli all went 3 for 5. All hit a double but Lee drove in three runs.

UnipolSai Bologna  10  –  2  Curaçao Neptunus
