Belgian Division One: April 12, Match of The Day

One run in the eighth inning made the difference for Hoboken Pioneers in a very close game. Thanks to this run, Pioneers stayed at the right side of the score.

Hoboken Pioneers 6 – 5 Borgerhout Squirrels

In the second inning, Hoboken Pioneers struck first. With runners in scoring position and no outs, Xander Verspreet scored on a wild pitch. Then Axl Roef singled to right field as he drove in Wesley Janssens to give Hoboken a 2-0 lead.

Hoboken’s lead would last until the sixth inning when Borgerhout tied the game when Sam Boermans hit a two-RBI single to center field.

The aforementioned run for Hoboken in the eighth inning was scored on a sac fly down the right field line, hit by Xander Verspreet.

After Pioneers scored three runs in the ninth inning, so did the Squirrels. And with a runner in scoring position and two outs, the Squirrels still had a chance to tie the game at six, but unfortunately for them, the next batter flied out to left field for the final out of the game. `

Catcher Benjamin Goffaux was the best hitter for Hoboken PIoneers as he went 4 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

A tour-de-force by Ben van Nuffel, who lasted eight innings in which he threw one-hundred-and-seventeen pitches. In those eight frames, he gave up two runs on seven hits as he struck out twelve and did not issue a walk for the win. Naoki Kambara, who went all the way, took the loss. He allowed six runs (four earned) on twelve hits, as he struck out eight.
