Merchtem Cats Add Two Imports to Their 2024 Roster

In the blog post about the transactions of the Merchtem Cats for the 2024 season, it was mentioned that two import players would be added to their roster. The Dutch Baseball Hangout was informed about the two additions today.

The two import players are Isaac Blake and Zane Gilpin. Both were found on baseballjobsoverseas.

Isaac Blake

Isaac Blake is a pitcher, who can be used as a starter or as a closer. He can also be used as a utility player. During his college days, he played for the Lewis and Clark Pioneers (NCAA Division III) from Portland, Oregon. In 2019, he had ten appearances in which he posted an 8.53 ERA with eleven Ks and eight BB. According to baseballjobsoverseas.com Isaac also played collegiate ball. Next to being a player, he has experience in coaching.

At baseballjobsoverseas.com Isaac states the following: “I cut my college baseball career short in order to focus on my passions for my academic research and coaching youth, which I have been doing for 7 years now. Since graduating, I began to train again at a world-class facility and have unlocked more velocity which made me realize that I have a lot left to give as a player. After months of working relentlessly at this facility, I am now in the best playing shape of my life and I am ready to make the jump to overseas ball as a player and youth coach.

Zane Gilpin is an NCCAA player. He can play C, 1B, 3B and besides these infield positions, he is able to pitch. Zane pitched for Southeastern Baptist College and for Alcorn State University. South Eastern Baptist College is located in Lauren, Mississippi, Alcorn State in Lorman in the same state.

Zane Gilpin (r)

At baseballjobsoverseas.com, Zane states: ”As a pitcher, I throw a 4 seam and 2 seam fastball (both around 82-84 mph), a curveball around 74 mph, and a changeup around 78 mph. As a catcher, my last recorded pop time was a 1.9. As a hitter, I mainly focus on extra base hits and moving runners around and I do a very good job at producing runs.

In high school I won a few awards for my pitching. I was recruited as a pitcher my freshman year of college and pitched fairly well when I was on the mound. I was moved to third base early in the season due to roster issues.

I think of myself as a teammate who can energize/motivate the team when needed. I’m also a guy that gets along well with everyone and strives to get the best out of not only myself but my teammates. I love to see everyone around me succeed.”

I’d like to thank Bart Saerens for the additional information to write this blog post.
